Biography
Beverly O’Regan Thiele is a
consummate singing actress noted for the intensity and honesty of her character
portrayal with a clear, crystalline, silver-toned, singing voice, who has
earned critical and popular acclaim for her interpretations of many important
roles from repertoire of the twentieth century, including Magda Sorel in
Menotti’s The Consul, (Washington National Opera and Berkshire Opera and
recorded on the Newport Classics Label), Blanche in Previn's A Streetcar
Named Desire,(Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Grand Rapids, Opera Santa
Barbara), the title role in Jenufa (Washington National Opera), Marie
Antoinette in Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles, Beatrice in A
View from the Bridge (Michigan Opera Theater), title roles in Katya
Kabanova (Lyric Opera of Chicago) and Vanessa (Utah Festival Opera),
and leading soprano roles in two world premieres for Michael Nyman:
"Woman" (three distinctive characters) in Man and Boy: Dada as
well as Avril in Love Counts (Badisches Staatstheater, Karlsruhe), the
title role in Therese Raquin (DiCapo Opera Theater), Miss Jessel in The
Turn of the Screw (Broomhill Opera Festival,UK), Abigail in The Crucible
and the title role in Floyd’s Susannah (Des Moines Metro Opera).
Other roles for which she has
earned acclaim include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (Glimmerglass Opera,
Mississippi Opera and Toledo Opera), Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte (Lake
George Opera, Opera Omaha and Fort Worth Opera) Musetta in La Boheme
(New York City Opera and Orlando Opera), Chrysothemis in Elektra and
Giulietta in Les Contes d’Hoffman (Badisches Staatstheater, Karlsruhe).
She recently ventured into
the Musical Theatre genre as Rosabella in Frank Loesser's The Most Happy
Fella with Utah Opera Festival. Last autumn, she journeyed to Hungary to
repeat her success in The Seagull. Last season includes performances of
Blanche for Opera Santa Barbara and as Mrs. Williamson in David Lang’s The Difficulty of Crossing a
Field for Beth Morrison Projects.
Notable appearances on the
concert stage include Mozart’s Requiem at Avery Fisher Hall, Dritte Dame
in Elektra with the Chicago Symphony under Daniel Barenboim, Mozart’s C-Minor
Mass and Bristow's Daniel, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9,
Verdi’s Requiem, Händel's Messiah, Patrick Cassidy's Famine
Remembrance Suite in Chicago's Symphony Space and Children of Lir,
Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Haydn Lord Nelson Mass. She is heard
on the recordings of the new releases of Boosey and Hawkes Britten Folk Songs
as well as several Hal Leonard Publishing projects. She is a frequent guest
artist with the Musicians of Ma'alwyck in Upstate New York.
